What: Annular Solar Eclipse Watch
When: Friday 15 January 2010 - 1:00 PM
Where: Maulali Hill
Meeting Point: Staircase - Maulali Hill
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the sun and the moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the moon's shadow is smaller than the visible disc of the sun. The covered sun, therefore, appears as a 'Ring of Fire', with its rays appearing spread out from the outline of the moon.
The last time India saw this Ring of Fire was Nov 22, 1965, and it will not be witnessed again before June 21, 2020. The maximum duration of the eclipse will be 11 minutes, 8 seconds over the Indian Ocean, thus making it the longest annular eclipse of the millennium.

The Eclipse starts at 11:29 in the morning and ends at 3:46 afternoon. Surya Grahanam on January 15, 2010 will be visible in South Kerala and South Tamil Nadu. The towns from where the ring of fire will be visible are Trivandrum and Kollam in Kerala and Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tanjavur, Kumbakonam and Thoothukudi.
The annular solar eclipse will be visible partially in Hyderabad on January 15. The maximum phase will occur at 1:32 pm when nearly 77 percent of the sun disk will be covered by the moon as seen from here.
At Hyderabad Some of us will go to Maula Ali Hill at 1 PM to watch the Solar Eclipse when its at its Maximum.
