After Successful completion of the first trek we have a lot of interest from other members to conduct another trek for masanagudi, you asked for it and here it is.

Masanagudi is an exotic locale situated a few kilometers before Ooty, on the Karnataka - Tamil Nadu Border. Masinagudi is a beautiful place on the foothills of Nilgiris just after the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka. The place is lush green, peaceful and adventurous at the same time with a lot of trekking and hiking options available

Trek through the virgin forest and alongside sparkling streams. There is every chance of seeing encountering wildlife (sloth bears, elephants, bison, dholes, tiger, panther, a variety of birds, etc.) at close quarters on a trek. The birds are particularly varied and exotic, due to an immediate change in elevation of 3500 feet that provides a variety of climatic conditions, which appeal to over 320 species of birds. The climb, which is feasibly challenging, begins through bamboo, passes dry deciduous forest, eucalyptus and finally the famed tea plantations of the Nilgiris.

1) Dress in drab clothing so you’ll blend into the background better. Something in green or brown - camouflage sort

3) A nylon jacket makes a lot of noise when you move your arms and when brush rubs against it, so an outer garment of a different fabric will be better.
4) Strictly avoid using perfumes, aftershave, deodorant and other strong artificial scents, animal have good sense of smell and may run away
5) Avoid freshly washed Clothes as they have pungent scent of the detergents that will drive the animals away
6) When the animal looks up, freeze absolutely still. They are very alert to motion, so a slight movement on your part will greatly increase the chances of it bolting for safety.
7) If you step on a twig or create any other noise, freeze. The animal may ignore the sound if there is no movement to give away your presence.
8) In presence of animals don't speak and if absolutely necessary just whisper
9) keep a distance of 300 meters from Elephants

Why is no one in the RSVPed group discussing this trek? This is a rare experience... and all trekkers must prepare for it... The trek is quite tough for new climbers...

I went to Masanagudi Jungles in the 1st trek. We trekked a few km into the jungle, until we came across wild elephants bathing in the river, & so descended into that valley.

It was a huge challenge to climb down the Valley. Luckily, it did not rain.

After lunch & rest, we all started to go back to the resort. It was the toughest climb you can imagine. Exhausting. Scary as hell...

Another lucky thing that happened was that there were no snakes on our route back. That helped a lot... :)

    •  Most exciting and amazing trip ever ...not to mention the experiences we all shared :) 3 cheers for HAC !!!
    •  This meetup was perfect in every way I can imagine. The people were fun and helpful--there was impressive camaraderie among us all, even when we were essentially all strangers. The organization for the event was excellent--everyone was looked after well, the meetup itinerary and other details such as accommodation and food and the like had all been carefully planned. And our host in Masinagudi--Suresh--was efficient as well as extremely helpful. And of course, Masinagudi, the place itself, was something one cannot forget easily. There was plenty of wildlife to see, the weather was perfect, and the experience of trekking in the actual jungles, with wilderness all around you was simply unforgettable.
    •  Adventure at its best.. a bit more'n wht we'd asked for, actually ;) .. chalte kya... Adventure! :)

Weather for the most part was excellent except the rains which couldnt stop us from trekking, we had close encouters with wild life, langoor, antelopes, elephants, deers, bear, bison and fresh leapord paws, saw a variety of birds and flora and fauna. I would go here once again soon
    •  great trek, company of young bubbeling, positive & inthusiasist people with never say die attitude...nature was also supporting the group when it was most important (most of us were expecting the day is ruined) I, personaly first time saw wild animals in natural surroundings (apart of seen on TV, ofcourse) kudos to all the members, diyanat, jagan & ashutosh, sanjay (for beautiful photographs) and nice write-ups as well...GHAC is a fantastic plateform to make great new freinds and appriciate the nature.....keep up the good work...Nagesh
